Charles "Scoop" Allen was a trumpeter and longtime member of Memphis soul group the Bar-Kays. He was born in Detroit and came to Memphis in the 1960s to live with his grandparents. He attended Memphis State University on a music scholarship. In 1972 he joined the Bar-Kays and toured with them for over a decade. He also recorded on hit albums lack Rock, Light of Life, and As One, before leaving the band in 1983. For the last 15 years of his life he was a counselor at a halfway house in Albuquerque, NM.
